Forms are Exercises

A lot of times we have folks training who are frustrated at not learning a new form, or set of techniques as fast as they think they should. I tend to think of all pre arranged movements as simply exercises, not unlike a push-up or sit-up. Knowing how to do the exercise correctly is important, but just memorizing moves doesn't mean much, we have to do the exercises to gain the true benefits. if you don't know your new form yet, don't worry...practice the ones you do know.
I figured out last night that since 1998, I have practiced PSR IlDan almost 16000 times, (16 thousand).
Most of the other forms and techniques probably almost that much as well. My point is that it does take time, Enjoy that, and just enjoy the exercises.

Two Person Kata's

One of the coolest things about PSR is the 2 person forms.
I don't know the reason for not teaching them until after brown belt, so we are going to start having all students learn them as an extra drill, right from white belt. I just can't see why someone should wait until 3rd - 4th dan, or brown belt for that matter,  to learn new material. At that point I would hope to be teaching, refining and perfecting techniques.

Updates to this Blog

SUN!

I've had some trouble with getting all my email and google acounts in order so I have not been able to do any blogging for quite some time. I still have a few things to figure out to get everything lined up correctly. I hate all this google acount crap!

However, I still want to encourage activity here. Daily thoughts, ideas, plans, etc. Anything that may be of interest to our group. There have been alot of things happening within our PSR family in the last year and this will be a good place to keep track of that as well.

I look forward to hearing more from everyone here!
