Breath Control

As I transition into solo training for the time being, I am reminded how important, subtle, and elusive effective breath control can be.
Even though we stress the breathing aspect in the warmup exercises and stretching, I encourage you to continue to focus on your breath control during kicks, punching and striking drills as well as your form practice. Hapkido is no different...proper breath control can really enhance a technique.

Timely post Master Hawk.

The last few Dynamite classes we've focused on the breathing side of technique execution. So many aspects included in "executing a technique" that we have to be mindful of each. Deconstructing each technique down to the basics helps reinforce each aspect so reconstruction can begin. The only issue we face now is when 20 kids all inhale in unison, our ears pop from the pressure drop:)

Master Hawk, THANKS! Daily breath training at the point of, or just before, aggression or stress has been helping me... and my partners. Case in point: while I was chasing down a stray cow, I started to get winded and upset. I stopped, thought about the most important things I could do to remedy this situation. (Just read your Breath Control post and... heart attack was on my mind) It occurred to me... "breathing technique" and continued onward. I swear the cow heard my breathing pattern change and decided to be mindful. It actually soothed both of us and I swear, my mind became clearer. Got in an Oh-Dan demo too! Mindfulness of breathing does go hand-in-hand with training and daily resolve.

Mr. Mustang, is that an Australian Cattle dog in your profile pic?
Mine is smart but he hasn't learned to drive yet, like yours.

Master Crane, the hard part is training them to use the cruise control! And, smart enough to tell me when not to chase the cattle on foot.....sometimes I wonder who the real Master is?

Molly is a Blue Healer aka Australian Cattle dog. Her lines are noted with Dingo, no Collie. One of the best friends I've ever had.
